One year later: our Young Grads look back at their first year at TAG

It’s been a year since Britt and Alexander joined TAG as Junior Consultants, each bringing their unique backgrounds and experiences. Britt started in mid-February 2025 as an Operational Business Controller, while Alexander began his role as a Data Analyst in late September 2024. In this interview, they share insights from their onboarding experience, the challenges they’ve overcome, and how TAG has supported their growth, both professionally and personally. Discover what their first months has taught them and why TAG is the perfect place to kickstart a promising career.

Hi Britt and Alexander, you’ve both been part of TAG for some time now. How did you experience your onboarding process? Did you feel supported?

Alexander: ‘Absolutely. Just like the recruitment process, the onboarding journey was highly structured and thoughtfully designed. It kicked off with an intensive Bootcamp, where we were immersed in valuable training sessions to sharpen our consultancy skills from day one. After that, each of us was matched to an external project in line with our talents and aspirations. From the outset, I had the support of a personal coach who helped me map out a plan to achieve my goals. On top of that, I could always rely on my Team Manager to guide me through my client project. The best of both worlds!’

Britt: ‘Indeed. The Bootcamp also shows how crucial teamwork is. You’re immediately thrown into a business case with a small team: a great way to gain your first real-world experience. And the qualification interviews we prepared for were excellent exercises in learning how to pitch ourselves clearly and concisely. But onboarding doesn’t stop after the first week. We received ongoing training and support. There’s always someone to turn to, whether it’s your coach for discussing your goals or your Team Manager for practical guidance. Support at TAG is very intentional and human. And it’s not just about work. The TAG events and TAGtivities are a big part of getting to know your colleagues better. That sense of community makes a real difference.’

Looking back now, how do you reflect on your first year at TAG?

Alexander: ‘Very positively! Thanks to the variety and complexity of the projects and the dynamic roles I’ve taken on, I’ve already been able to significantly broaden my skill set. Solving sophisticated client challenges in a structured and high-quality way gives me energy, especially when I can measure and clearly see the impact, and the client is genuinely satisfied. I’ve also been able to build on my engineering background by gaining solid experience in both business and technology. It’s been incredibly rewarding.’

Britt: ‘TAG really offers a lot of variety, both internally and in the field. You work across different sectors, take on multiple types of projects, and collaborate with a wide range of colleagues. That means you learn a huge amount in a relatively short time. But even with all that variety, TAG remains a true home base. We’re a small, close-knit community. Thanks to the great office vibe and the many team events outside of work, everyone knows each other. If something doesn’t go quite as planned, there’s always someone ready to help. That support sets TAG apart.’

What moments have stood out for you so far, and what challenges have you overcome?

Alexander: ‘Every client project I’ve successfully completed is a real highlight. Although starting a new project is always a bit tense at first. But thanks to TAG’s support, we always find a way to make it work. The Bootcamp was also unforgettable, especially the pitch night where each team presented their business case. Winning with my team topped off the experience.’

Britt: ‘For me, the TAG day left a wonderful impression. It was the first time I truly socialised with the team. Learning together first and following up with a cocktail workshop and delicious tapas was the perfect way to get to know my colleagues on a more personal level. Regarding the challenges, the business case during Bootcamp pushed me out of my comfort zone. For me, as a bio-engineer, programming in a Python environment was tricky. But we did it.’

Congratulations! How about your learning process: have you gained a lot of new insights so far?

Alexander: ‘Definitely. One of the key things I’ve learned is how to collaborate smoothly with clients by communicating clearly and ensuring everyone is aligned. I’ve also grown a lot in terms of content. To tackle business challenges effectively, you really need to understand the client’s organisation and industry. And beyond that, I’ve learned a lot about myself too. By taking on different roles and working on various projects, you discover what energises you and what doesn’t. That’s incredibly valuable when it comes to mapping out your future career.’

Britt: ‘I’m currently working as an Operational Business Controller for a client. Since I have a background in bio-engineering, the world of finance and accounting was quite new to me. I’ve learned a lot already, and I’m proud of how quickly I’ve been able to adapt. TAG really teaches you to approach things pragmatically and with a problem-solving mindset. It’s one of the company’s core values, and an essential skill for any consultant. What I love is that you learn to tackle problems from different angles, so you build up a whole toolkit of solutions.’

Why would you recommend TAG to other Young Graduates?

Alexander: ‘TAG is an ambitious employer that truly supports you on your personal career journey. On top of that, it feels like a home within a warm and welcoming team, where you’re never left to tackle tough challenges alone. The balance between hard work and fun is spot on, and that is a unique advantage that make TAG stands out.’

Britt: ‘At TAG, you learn an incredible amount in a short time. Therefore, it’s the perfect place to kickstart your career. You’re challenged in a variety of ways and develop practical skills that you might not have gained at university. TAG really strives to unlock your full potential by motivating you and providing opportunities. No matter your background, you’ll find something that suits your interests here, along with the right people to connect with. I’m sure!’

Thank you for this insightful interview, Alexander and Britt. We wish you the best of luck with your upcoming projects!
